2024 F1 Hungarian GP Recap
The Hungarian Grand Prix was one of the most exciting races this year, with tons of drama and Piastri winning his first race
Race Results
Oscar Piastri finished the race in first place, followed by teammate Lando Norris and Hamilton in third place. This race marks Oscar’s first win, and Oscar’s the seventh driver to win this season!
Drama with the McLarens
The race started with Lando at pole and Piastri in second. Within the first few corners, though, Piastri had taken first place and Lando was a few seconds behind after fighting Max. Fast forward to the first pit stop, Mclaren decides to pit Lando first, giving him the undercut on his teammate. The team told Piastri that this was so Lando could hold off Hamilton and both drivers would benefit this way. However, Hamilton was five seconds behind leaving Norris to take the lead with virtually no challenge. The team then instructed Norris to give the position back to Piastri, which he did in the last three laps of the race after multiple warnings. One can only imagine what Mclaren’s thought process was with this race
Max and Hamilton Collide
Max was fighting Hamilton for third place. Max was a little behind but had the inside line on Hamilton. However, Max locked u; and ran straight into Hamilton, dropping him down into fifth place. All this comes after RedBull let Max get undercut, a decision that he wasn’t happy with. This race was one of Max’s worst finishes in a while and shows the championship slowly leaving Redbull.
Danny Ric loses the race because of a bad strategy call from VCarb
Daniel Ricciardo had a great quali yesterday, even finishing 1st at the end of q1. However, it was all lost today when the team called him in for an early pitstop on lap seven. He started the race on mediums, but the team chose to have him follow the drivers on soft tires. This strategy blunder was lethal for Ric, who needed this race to show off before the summer break. As a Ricciardo fan, this race was brutal to watch.
