DeLorean Alpha5
After nearly half a century, DeLorean makes its return with the Alpha5.
DeLorean. Hmmmm. Why does that name sound familiar? That’s the car that Doc made into a time machine in the 1985 move Back to the Future. The Delorean Motor Company (DMC) was started in 1975 by former automobile industry exec John Delorean. Its primary claim to fame was the stainless steal Delorean sports car featuring gull-wing doors featured in Back to the Future.
The company had a short length, going bacncrupt in 1982 after John Delorean was videotaped in a sting operation to bankroll drug trafficking. Then, in 1995, Mechanic Stephen Wynne bought the name and remaining parts and started a new company. Now, rebranded as Delorean Motors Reimagined LLC, after years of being a niche steel-car automaker out of texas, Delorean says its releasing an electric coupe, the Alpha5. The company is led by CEO Joost de Vries. Vries has worked in many other companies including Karma and Tesla.
Back in February, the company released plans for the new Delorean, and they plan to show prototypes at a fair in California mid August. The car doesn’t have spectacular numbers, but it has history. The car has an expected 0-60 in just under 3 seconds and an expected top speed of 155 mph. Finally, the car is expected to come to market in 2024.
