McLaren Speedtail

The Speedtail is McLaren’s first Hyper-GT and is a jump ahead of their previous cars.

Revealed in 2018, the McLaren Speedtail is a limited-production hybrid sports car. It’s the company’s first hyper-gt, and it is the fourth edition of the McLaren Ultimate Series following the Senna, P1, and F1. The SpeedTail is leagues ahead of any other Mclaren car. With a top speed of 250 mph, it’s the fastest Mclaren produced. Moreover, its hybrid powertrain generates 1035 hp. It’s priced accordingly: 2 million dollars. Mclaren plans to only build 106 of these cars, all of which have been spoken for.

A twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 and an electric motor work together to produce a total output of 1035 horsepower and 848 lb-ft of torque. The car comes standard with velocity mode, which lowers the car by 1.4 inches allowing it to reach optimum speed. With all this power, the Speedtail goes from 0 to 186 mph in just 12.8 seconds.

Testing for the vehicle was done on a shuttle landing runway at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. It was also tested on tracks in Germany, Spain, and Italy.

The Speedtail is also full of advanced technology. Instead of exterior mirrors, the car has retractable cameras that feed into a pair of screens on the interior. The interior is a three-seat layout with the driver’s seat in the center surrounded by two passenger seats. Instead of sun visors, a strip of electrochromatic glass at the top of the windshield blocks the sun’s rays.

However, all of this comes at a cost. Due to its lack of traditional exterior mirrors, the car isn’t legal in the U.S. However, it can be driven under Show or Display law. Under this rule, vehicles of “historical or technological significance” can be driven up to 2500 miles over a 12-month period. As a result, 35% of the cars were bought by American buyers
