Rolls Royce Spectre
Rolls-Royce releases its first fully electric car, the Spectre.
Rolls-Royce has always been the epitome of luxury. From their original cars in the early 1900s to their latest cars, no one has topped the experience they give passengers. Now, for the first time, the company has released an all-electric car. Though not unexpected, seeing as many other companies transitioned in a similar way, the move is still significant for the company and the future of luxury.
Designer Anders Warming aimed to make the Spectre Rolls-Royce first and electric second. Warming says that ‘It’s paving the path for the electric future of Rolls-Royce. What you see here is a car that’s 100% working with the DNA of Rolls-Royce. You immediately see the poise, the composure, the waft ability of the car. You know it’s a Rolls-Royce at heart, and then the electrification on top. It’s fine art on wheels.'
Specs
The two-door, four-seat coupe is built on the architecture of luxury, an aluminum chassis that was the base for the current Phantom, Ghost, and Cullinan. The car is propelled forward by an electric motor on each axle and has a range of 323 miles. Moreover, Rolls-Royce brought the drag coefficient down to 0.25, making the Spectre the most aerodynamic Rolls to date.
This isn’t where the records stop. The Spectre is also the stiffest of the fleet, beating the other models by over 30 percent. Additionally, it’s the heaviest, at about 3,000 kg, has the widest grill, which comes with its own lighting. Additionally, Rolls-Royce created a new Spirit of Ecstasy, which was developed through 830 hours of wind tunnel testing!
The engineers at Rolls-Royce also improved the suspension, moving the companies adaptive Planar system forward. It uses sensors to control the anti-roll bars.
The Spectre is the only Coupe with 23-inch wheels in production, and the first to do it since the the 1920 Bugatti Royal. Looking at the side of the car, there’s three key lines: the roof line, the shoulder line, and the waft line. The way the shoulder and waft lines tapre toward the front gives the car a dynamism that can only be described as Rolls Royce. Everything from the outside is connected, making it seem seemless.
Rolls-Royce is known for its starlight headliner. In the Spectre, though, we see this come to the doors. There’s 4,800 stars on both of the doors, connecting beautifully with the ceiling.
With the Spectre, we finally see a company sticking to its values. Though its electric, and doesn’t have a V-12 under its hood, it still maintains the magic carpet feel of the luxurious Rolls Royce.
