Audi redesigned it’s classic logo
Audi redesigned their logo to give it a more 2-D shape
Audi has one of the most recognizable logos in the industry. Four circles are organized in a linear, symmetrical pattern. The company, though, decided to redesign the logo to make it flatter and simpler. The motivating factor, according to the company, is to make it so the logo looks the same on a screen, on paper, on a car, on a billboard, or anywhere else it might be. The logo also replaces the solid black color with white rings outlined in black. Owners will have the option to replace the white with a gray that looks like a glossy black. Audi hopes that the contrasting colors will allow the emblem to be visible from farther away.
Starting with the Q8 e-tron, the new logo has already started to appear on some of the company’s newer cars and received a mix of reviews. Audi has admitted that part of the reasoning behind the change is because of the trend sweeping the industry, which we’ve seen with companies like Volkswagen.
The four rings represent the four German Automakers (Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer) that merged to make the Auto Union in 1932. in 1965, AU was rebranded as Audi, and the logo has remained almost constant since then. On the right, we see the progression of the company’s logos, and we see that this four-circle theme has been consistent throughout most of the company’s history.
